In Coolaroo there is a new train station building happening. Because we are part of the community we went to the station with the Preps to view the train station. On Monday two people came to assembly, Matthew Johnson [an artist] and another person from the department of transport to tell us about it.

Wow! How excited are we at Coolaroo South Primary School. When we first saw the station. It is really different from any other train station. Just the shape of it, makes you want to look at it more. The sentences we painted for the train station were so much fun. I can’t wait to see it finished.

Last week our grade Ms Campion’s grade went with Ms Hobbs grade went to see and talk about the train station that will be done around next year. We had to have a buddy from prep. It was funny because my buddy was being silly it was kind of annoying but it made me feel like I was a leader. Last Monday the 9/11/09 the whole school met the designer for the train station. It was cool.  Today the 11/11/09 at 10:00 we went to art and we design some of the words. My group said go on the train and have a good time, it was awesome so was the man. Today was the best art class for me.

On Wednesday the 14^thof October some students from Coolaroo South Primary School went to compete in athletics-Zone and Regional Finals.  We were at school really early. Excitement! 

 All of the students had something to compete in:   shot-put, 1500m  and 200mrace, 100 m sprint (ME!), high jump, long jump, triple jump, relays, discus .  

It was also pouring down rain. I felt like not doing my event but I gave it a go.  I’m glad I did

I had to run in the rain, it slowed me down.  All the Coolaroo students were cheering for me. All different noise – screaming, cheering, yelling, laughing.  

When the other students were competing I cheered for them too.  On the way back Coolaroo dropped off Bethul at their school.  Coolaroo got back to school at about 4:30 or 4:00 it was an awesome day.

We are investigating what Kate Leeming is doing for African Kids.  Why does she want to help the African kids?  How does Kate have so much energy? Why is she doing this?  She will gain her own sense of achievement,

Kate is talking about Poverty, raising awareness, helping African Kids.  While she is doing this she will be  helping us learn about geography and sharing what she finds out with the world.

We wonder about many things like:

Why are African people  so poor? 

Some countries in Africa are not poor – like South Africa.  Why don’t they share their money with the poor nations.  Why don’t Australia and other countries help?

When people work they don’t get paid enough… Why?

Teachers, teachers…Mrs. Campion was too exited because today was the Writers’ Festival! Rub, rub we cleaned the table for the Writers’ Festival for the parents to come in.

Ding, ding the bell went for snack the grade went out of their mind and ran out of the door. I went out and had a good time because today is the Writer’s Festival. Ding, ding well there goes the bell to go in. Finally it was the time to go to the gym.

Wow! There were parents and there were high school teachers an…and there was Sherryl Clark!  A famous author! Ms. Nicholls entered view. What was going to happen at the assembly?  First she thanked the parents and high school teachers for coming to the Writers’ Festival. Then the grades from 1 to 6 thanked Sherryl Clark for coming to our school and participating in the Writers’ Festival.

Then they announced the most improved writer in the classes.  They announced the winner in grade 1 then they announced the year 2 to year 4. Then it comes to year 5 “the Most Improved Writer in Grade Five in Mrs. Campion’s  is Jay”.  I got impressed!

These are some of the peoples comments about the book:

I found “A Good Tip For Ghosts” good quality.  It wasn`t really a book  that I wanted to read. I thought the book was going to be about two boys who are mates  and there is a big gang of bullies at there new school. 

In the end it was about twins that always go to the tip with there dad to get things from there.

A group of people including me have been reading a very unusual book called UNCANNY! And the Short story is called “A GOOD TIP FOR GHOSTS”. It’s very mysterious and breathtaking when you get to the scary parts, very disgusting when you get to the gross parts…          We usually read a few chapters every week and sometimes we read when we have  reading groups.

I like this book alot because its funny and I like the writer. I rate this book nine and a half. It’s a really good book.

CHPS vs CSPS Game

The girls and boys in grade 5/6 participate in the Coolaroo South Primary Schools Soccer Team. We had a match yesterday!

 During lunch time, we had a meeting with our sport teacher Mr C, to see who was going to play and what our positions would be.

We competed against Campbellfield Heights Primary. The day started as the girls’ soccer team went on. People were shouting out and cheering with loud voices. Boys next! While the boys were playing the girls were huddling and making a plan for their second half.

We all jumped up and were cheering. At end of the day they went back to their school. It is all about team work. We all look forward for our next match.
